5 Ways to Turn Your Home into a Yoga Studio

Walking into a yoga studio can be an instant way to transcend into a more mindful and relaxed state. The cool air and silence- just thinking about it makes me want to get down on the mat! Wanting that yoga studio feel seems to be a consistent excuse for why people don’t do yoga at home. But the good news is, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to recreate that atmosphere! Follow these five simple tips to achieve yoga bliss at home:

Clear your space. If you only follow one of these tips, decluttering is going to give you the most peace of mind. You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of space, but make sure that the space you do have is organized and filled only with things that serve a purpose or inspire you. Plus you don’t want to kick over your tv with an over-enthusiastic pose!

Find a mat that brings you joy. There are no rules. Want a calming blue mat? Get one! Want a bright cheery yellow mat? Go for it! Your mat is the easiest way to customize your home yoga practice. If you’re a first timer maybe give a blanket a try until you decide to get a mat. And clean it often!

Stash some pillows nearby. Sometimes it’s nice at the end of your practice to rest your head on a pillow or during child’s pose you may want one within arms reach. Pillows stacked near you can also bring you a sense of relaxation

Scent it up. Scents have a strong tie with your emotional state, so don’t let the smell of your dirty laundry piling up (no judgement!) ruin your practice. Aromatherapy candles or essential oils can really amp up the mood-enhancing qualities of your practice. If you find yourself too stressed being in your own home try using some lavender essential oils to mentally remove yourself from that place. You have the power to transform a stress inducing space to a stress relieving space.

Dim your lights or get a low light lamp. Low lighting can bring a softness to your space that will soothe even the most uneasy mind. You’ll be thanking yourself once you get to savasana.

Good luck with your home practice and have fun creating a space that’s completely tailored for you!
